Yes, we've been there.  To reach Gibraltar from the Spanish side, we parked our car at the border and walked across the Gibraltar airport runway to enter the city, a unique experience in between flights (thankfully not very often).

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is one of the most impressive of all European and Spanish cities....incredibily unique with its bustling port, famous water front plus ancient medieval, Gothic ruins coupled with modern architecture, art museums and style around every corner, including the former Olympic village from the 1992 games.

You can marvel at Gaudi's Sagrada Familia or enjoy the shady, tree-lined Las Ramblas boulevard with famous stores, a bustling day market and forget credit card worries for some of the city's best shopping and cafes. If you have time, visit the 4 Cats restaurant near the square.   Enjoy original paintings by famous artists who traded their work for a meal, including Picasso.

Cadiz, Spain

Castaway, Travels, Hotels, Resorts

In Cadiz, cobblestone streets connect café-filled squares, where you can sip a wine, coffee or beer while soaking up the Moorish architecture. Or visit Seville, famous for bullfighting, flamenco, fiesta and the final resting place of Christopher Columbus.

Cadiz also has a rich history combining Spanish and Moroccan based old quarters and landmarks – an ornamented cathedral and the Alcazar palace, decorated in Moorish style.  Sometimes, it's hard to tell if you're witnessing Roman or Morrocan influence in architecture and styles....but a treat nevertheless.  Last time we were there, after a hot day of sight seeing, the most memorable relaxation after a hard day of touring was a cold beer.

Malaga, Spain

Málaga is like a beautiful work of art since it's the birthplace of Picasso where his museum commemorating his creations and life is located, a not-to-be-missed destination for art lovers. Visit the city’s Alcazaba, a 11th-century citadel that is home to three palaces, lush gardens, and opulent fountains.

Casablanca, Morocco

Castaway, Travels, Hotels, Resorts

Casablanca is a bustling port city and commercial center in western Morocco on the shores of the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The city's French colonial influence is present in its downtown Mauresque architecture, a blend of Moorish style and European art deco.  The giant Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993, features a dominant minaret, almost 700 feet tall with lasers directed toward Mecca.

The most enjoyable memory and highlight of our previous visit to Casablanca is dining with friends at the famous Rick's Cafe (inspired by the original movie,  "Casablanca")where we met the creator/owner,  Kathy Kriger, who passed away in July 2018. See her below with Champagne.   We visited with her several more times at Travel Trade Association meetings in Europe and Seville.  She began her career as a Travel Agent in Portland, OR and later joined the U.S. Government as a Commercial Advisor overseas.

Bliss Barcelona

Other photos below include Atlas Studios(World's largest film and movie set), a desert kasbah, an overnight in the Sahara desert Berber tent followed by a pre-dawn camel ride.  Plus: Snow in Morocco (true-there's even a ski lodge),  a colorful local senior citizen, Marrakesh market with snake charmers and more.

Castaway, Travels, Hotels, Resorts - Bliss Barcelona

Valencia, Spain

Marvel at the stunning mix of innovative architecture and gothic beauty when you visit Valencia. This Spanish city is home to many avant-garde buildings, including the breathtaking City of Arts and Sciences cultural complex.

Elsewhere, palaces and mansions constructed in the 15th century dot the cityscape, while The Silk Exchange resembles a medieval fortress housing many mysterious carvings.

Theme Nights

You just can't have a lifestyle event without having a fun, surprising theme for each night!   Although you're never required to dress for theme nights, it can add some extra fun to the evening and perhaps get something started.   The Barcelona/Casablanca Bliss charter themes have not been announced yet but once they are, we will surely post them.    Speaking of Morocco and Casablanca, let your imagination start bubbling...surely you can think of a theme for "Casablanca."

Pre/Post Cruise Information

To be safe, arrive the night before the cruise so you don't miss the boat. And Castaways Travel and its parent company, Fox Travel, will make arrangements at a hotel to stay the night before the cruise. We'll be hosting a pre-cruise Meet & Greet Reception to give everyone the opportunity to start getting to know each other with whom you will be sailing the open waters.

Details for the hotel, Meet & Greet Reception and shuttle service have not been finalized for this cruise.

Pre/Post Cruise Holiday Extensions

Castaways' parent company, Fox Travel - Associate, American Express, can assist you with your turn-key plans to add a holiday before or after your Bliss Cruise.  Our professional staff of travel advisors has visited Europe, Africa, the U.K., Scandinavia, the Baltics and cruise the Med and the North Sea extensively.  In addition, owners Champagne and James, have visited and traveled extensively in Morocco and know the country including camping in the desert.

Morocco is the crossroads of West Africa, Sahara, Europe and the Mediterranean. In fact, Morocco is the only African nation with two coasts: Facing the Atlantic to the west and the Med to the north. This country of 34 million population is an independent, stable and progressive nation governed by a constitutional monarchy. The ancient area has been inhabited from 190,000 to 90,000 B.C. to the present time.  Cities we visited include:  Casablanca (and dined at Rick's Cafe), Marrakesh, Fez, Rabat, Meknes,  the Atlas Mountains and the world's largest:  Atlas (movie) Studios in Ouarzazate

Booking Considerations

Cabin Type

Do you prefer a stateroom with or without a window? Cabins without a window are normally located on the interior corridor of the ship.  Balcony staterooms include an outside patio or deck area where the scenery can be enjoyed outdoors.  Suites include a extra square footage plus sleeping and dining areas with additional amenities. ** If someone in your party is prone to motion sickness, choose a cabin in a lower level and in the mid ship range.

Stateroom Size

Being comfortable is important when sailing on a week-long cruise. Will you be in your stateroom often? Do you want to drink coffee (ora Bloody Mary) on your balcony? A small stateroom without a window isn't a good fit for passengers might be claustrophobic Try to anticipate your needs ahead of time and book a cabin size that fits your preferences

Extras and Amenities

Staterooms and suites offer a range of amenities from Concierge services, to menu upgrades and spa access, to wet bars and butlers in the Suite class.  Decide on which perks will make your vacation complete before choosing a cabin.
