This new adventure is a fun follow-up to a similar venture Castaways Travel sponsored a few years ago for a complete resort takeover on Belize’s Ambergris Caye. We dived Belize’s Mayan Barrier Reef, 2nd largest in the world besides Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and had a BLAST.
NOTE: The trip in this page is for a Castaways complete Belize island takeover, but it’s not Ambergris Caye.
Belize is great fun. When you do decide to dress: It’s shorts, swim suit, T-shirt or tank top, a hat, sunscreen, a sundress and flip-flops…..or nothing at all. Don’t miss this unique clothing-optional getaway with adult-themed privacy….except of course for your newfound friends and the great staff that will spoil you rotten and keep you entertained night and day.
One caveat: This is a laid-back island experience, slow-paced with no camp counselors or activity directors on staff getting you out of your chair every hour for the next resort contest. Expect your experience to be the exact opposite so consider what you want to do while you’re in Belize. Take some time to see the country and make some new friends. Clients who attend the week make the week so much fun. You will meet your share of fun-loving adults who are there to just have a good time. Many past guests stated the clientele attracted to the property and resort staff are the highlights of the week.
So, where the heck is Belize? It’s a little over an hour south of Cancun or Cozumel by air. The northern border of Belize is the southern border of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. Your final mainland destination is 20-25 minutes south of Belize City by Mayan Island Air to Dangriga. From the Dangriga airstrip, it’s a short shuttle transfer to the dock for your 20-25 minute boat trip to CASTAWAYS ISLAND.

THE ISLAND – Getting There
Your holiday adventure is 8 miles off the coast of Dangriga, Belize. Round-trip commuter air from Belize International Airport (BZE) to Dangriga(DGA) takes 20-25 minutes plus a short transfer to the island by open-air speedboat is also 20-25 minutes. Belize International is served frequently by American, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska Air, Copa plus other air carriers from the US and Central America. Details: Fly to Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport – Belize (BZE) and transfer from BZE to Dangriga Airport (DGA) via commuter aircraft.
After arriving in Dangriga you will transfer by van to an ocean dock where your speed boat will take you to the island on a 20- 25 minute ride across some of the most beautiful Caribbean sea to your private Castaways Island retreat for a week.

- International flights and commuter air from the Belize Airport to Dangriga are extra.
- Ground transfers from Dangriga to the dock to catch your ride and the speed boat trip are included.
- Bus transfers from Belize International to Dangriga are included as an option. The drive time is approximately 1.5 hours each way.

Located just a 1/2 mile away, Man-O-War Caye is a designated bird sanctuary. It is home to a variety of indigenous bird species, including Pelicans, Brown Booby birds and Magnificent Frigate birds that soar in great numbers above the island.

DRINKS
BYOB or purchase duty-free at the Belize airport before your short commuter flight on Maya Island Air or Tropic Air. Several shops include extensive choices of liquor such as tequila, scotch, whisky, bourbon and more. Wine selection is limited to a couple brands from Argentina or other Latin American sources. Some brands show off the creativity and sense of humor in Belize.
NOTE: A large local market in Dangriga stocks a lot of the base necessities of life and has several shelves of liquor and wine.
SPORTS
Freebies galore: Swimming, sunning, skinny dipping, snorkeling, enjoying dolphins when they visit, Hobie cat sailing, paddle boarding, kayaks, feeding the fish, meditating and chilling out in one of the private over-water palapas.

A Word about SCUBA: We’ve been diving Belize since 1985 and the experience is spectacular. Forget Cozumel and the Yucatan dive traffic. This area around the island is pristine and accessible. The longest unbroken barrier reef (the Belize Barrier Reef) in the world is located minutes away and offers some of the world’s finest diving. The nearby coral atolls of Glovers Reef contain outstanding and untouched dive areas. Don’t miss Shark’s Cave, it is an awesome sight! The resort’s dive sites include areas along the Southern Barrier Reef, from slightly north of Tobacco Cay to south of South Water Cay, including the South Water Cay Marine Reserve. The Barrier Reef is a quick 10-minute boat ride from CASTAWAYS ISLAND. Most of the dives in this area are drift wall dives interspersed with sand channels where you may spot southern stingrays, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, sea turtles, barracuda, grouper, dolphins, and a wide variety of smaller tropical fish. During the summer season, you may be lucky enough to share the reef with whale sharks that visit the area for—what else?— to find a mate in the Silk Cay Marine area.
There is a wide selection of dive sites in this area of the Barrier Reef to choose from. Dives include The Abyss, Black Beauty, Carrie Bow Ridges, Hell Hole, Little Blue Hole, Paradise Reef, South Water Wall, and Trick Ridge.
Whale Shark Dives
Dog snapper come to this area of the reef to spawn. Whale sharks follow to feed upon the spawn. The docile, gentle whale shark is the largest of all fish and can weigh up to 15 tons and be up to 45 feet in length. As many as four to five whale sharks can be seen on a dive and this experience should not be missed by divers visiting Belize during these full moons. These dives will require special arrangements and additional costs. There is a 6-person minimum on this specialty dive due to distance and all dives are weather permitting.
