First Timer Questions
New to lifestyle or adult friendly travel You are not alone. These FAQs are designed to answer the most common first time questions so you can feel comfortable, prepared, and excited for your trip. Take a look below and if anything is still unclear, our Castaways advisors are always happy to help.
What is lifestyle travel and who is it for?
Lifestyle travel is for open minded adults who enjoy new experiences and meeting like minded people in a relaxed environment. Some trips are more romantic or sensual, others feel more like a fun party vacation. Everyone chooses their own level of participation. Consent and respect guide everything.
What is the difference between swinger, nude, and naturist vacation?
Swinger vacations are for open minded adults in the lifestyle who choose to explore new experiences with other consenting couples/adults.
Nude and naturist vacations focus more on body freedom and relaxation without clothing. Naturist guests are often not lifestyle, and many lifestyle guests enjoy nude spaces only for comfort and confidence. Some resorts and cruises blend both communities, so you choose the atmosphere that fits your interest and comfort.
Are these trips only for couples?
Currently all of the lifestyle/swinger cruises are couples only. Some allow a single man or woman joining as part of a couple’s cabin (MFM or FMF). Hedonism II and Temptation resorts welcome single men and single women year round. Our group trips sometimes include restrictions to maintain the right balance of guests, so availability for solos can vary. All naturist and nude destinations also allow singles, although the vibe is more about body freedom than flirting. If you are traveling solo, a Castaways advisor can help you find the perfect fit for comfort and community.
Do I have to be nude or participate in anything?
No. You always choose your own comfort level. All lifestyle resorts and swinger cruises are clothing optional so you can wear as much or as little as you like. Some resorts like, Hedonism II, include clearly marked “nude required” areas for certain pools or beaches. If you prefer to stay covered, there are always spaces where clothing is welcome. The naturist safari in South Africa is the exception because nudity is required across the entire resort to support the naturist experience.
How should I prepare for a lifestyle vacation?
A little planning can make the experience even more fun. Many couples create a profile on lifestyle-friendly sites like SDC or SLS to start making connections before the trip. Talk with your partner about comfort levels, interests and boundaries so you both feel confident. It can also be helpful to swap contact cards (aka “slut cards”) with new friends you meet along the way. Join the specific group or cruise private facebook page. Above all, bring an open mind. These trips are no pressure environments where “no thank you” is always respected. If it is your first time, ask a lot of questions. Everyone started somewhere and most guests love helping newcomers feel welcome in the lifestyle community.
How do we meet people onboard or at the resort?
Hosts create mixers, games, and themed events so it is easy to say hello and connect.
Will we see people we know?
It is much less likely than running into someone at a party in your own city. Still, it can happen. If you do recognize someone, a friendly smile and a simple hello is all that is needed. Everyone is there for the same reason, and discretion is always respected. You are among a community that values privacy just as much as you do.
What are the people like?
Just like you. Nude and clothing optional destinations attract guests from all walks of life including professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, business owners, and everything in between. The best part is that labels and status fade quickly. Everyone is equal, relaxed, and there to enjoy themselves. It is easy to make friends and feel part of the community.
Will our booking be discreet on our credit card?
Yes. We have specialized in lifestyle and adult friendly travel since 1982 so discretion is built into everything we do. Credit card charges appear under our vanilla parent company Fox Travel.
What if I do not drink or party late?
There are plenty of daytime activities plus quiet spaces for relaxation. You decide your own vibe.
Where should i tell my nosey family and friends I am going?
Share only what feels comfortable. Many guests simply say they are on a Caribbean cruise or enjoying an adults only beach vacation. If it helps you feel secure, choose one trusted friend or family member to have the full details in case of emergency. Joining your sailing’s private Facebook group is also helpful because they can suggest a “vanilla” cruise or nearby resort with matching ports and dates for anyone who asks. When you are in port, take a few fully clothed photos so you have easy proof of a relaxed tropical getaway.
Will people judge my body?
No. Body acceptance is a core part of both lifestyle and naturist travel. These trips celebrate real people. Scars, stretch marks, and experiences are part of your story, and you are welcome exactly as you are.
Do I have to participate in any activites?
No. Every guest sets their own pace and boundaries. Some people come to relax and enjoy the pool. Others love dancing and nightlife. Consent and comfort always come first.
What if I get a "boner" or it's "that time of the month"?
For the guys:
Stepping onto a nude beach does not automatically mean things are going to stand at attention. It is actually pretty unlikely. If it does happen, just roll onto your stomach for a minute or use a towel until things settle down. The little blue pill has definitely made its presence known at clothing optional resorts in the evenings, especially around the pool and hot tub areas. Just be mindful and respectful of the setting.
For the ladies:
The timing may not feel ideal but do not let it stop you from having fun. On heavier days, many women simply wear a swimsuit bottom and enjoy the day like normal. On lighter days, most just tuck the string and continue on. Either way, it is no big deal and completely normal.
What should I pack?
Bring bathing suits and resort wear for arrival and public areas, and comfortable shoes for walking the ship or property. Most guests also pack fun outfits for theme nights, plus lingerie or playful accessories for evening events. A light sheer cover up is helpful for restaurants and indoor spaces where clothing is required. Do not forget sunscreen, travel sized essentials, and anything that makes you feel confident and relaxed. If you prefer to pack light, many trips offer shops with costumes and extras on board or on site.
Should I purchase trip insurance?
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect the value of your vacation. Unforeseen events such as flight delays, cancellations, medical issues, accidents, injury, family emergencies, or illness before departure can interrupt or cut short your trip. Travel protection helps safeguard your investment and your peace of mind.
Coverage ranges from standard cancellation and medical protection to more flexible options, including “Cancel for Any Reason” plans. Rates vary based on your state of residence, date of birth, and level of coverage selected.
For U.S. residents, Castaways Travel offers policies through Allianz Travel Insurance, available via our parent company, Fox Travel. If you live outside the U.S., please secure coverage locally.
Typical premiums average 4%–7% of your total vacation cost, depending on your age, location, and policy options. Online quotes may provide an estimate only and are not guaranteed, as final costs vary with your selected coverage.
To purchase, ask your Castaways Travel Advisor for a personalized quote or call (281) 465-4960
You may also check & purchase rates online through Fox Travel’s Insurance Quote Tool.
How do I book and what is the deposit?
Most Castaways trips only require a $100 per person deposit. We offer flexible payment terms that can be spaced out over time. Final payment timing depends on the cruise line or resort.
Lifestyle/Swinger Cruises
These questions cover general expectations for Swinger Cruises. Policies and vibes can vary a bit depending on the ship and charter company.
Are alcholic beverages included?
It depends on the cruise line. Desire and Temptation charter cruises include alcoholic beverages as part of the fare. Bliss Cruise offers drink packages for an additional fee, typically ranging from $70 to $100 per person per day, depending on the package you choose.
Where can I be nude on the ship?
Nudity is welcome outdoors on the pool decks and sun areas, as well as in designated playrooms and in your cabin. For health code reasons, genitals must be covered when indoors outside of those spaces. When the ship is docked in port, clothing may be required on the outer decks if other ships are nearby. The crew is very accommodating because they host lifestyle charters often. You will be able to relax nude as much as possible throughout the cruise.
Are the playrooms supervised?
Yes. Staff members are present to help manage the space, keep things tidy, and make sure everyone feels comfortable. Consent and respect are always the responsibility of each guest, so communication is key. If you ever need assistance, the team is nearby and ready to help.
Is there an age restriction for lifestyle cruises?
Yes, restriction of 21+ for guests sailing.
Is lingerie or sexy attire allowed in public spaces
Yes. You can absolutely be creative with your outfits. Lingerie and playful clothing are welcome in most areas as long as your genitals are covered. In dining spaces, you may be asked to sit on a towel for health code reasons. Guests jokingly call it the “towel of shame”, although most see it as a badge of honor.
Are photographs allowed on the ship?
Photos are welcome in public clothed areas, restaurants, and ports, however cameras and phones must stay put away in nude or adult zones to protect everyone’s privacy. Look for posted signs or ask staff if you are unsure. Always ask consent before taking photos of others.
Are Public Displays of Affection (PDAs) allowed in the public area?
kissing is common and totally fine. More intimate behavior should stay in designated playrooms or cabins.
Are there smoking and non-smoking areas in the boat?
Yes. The ship offers clearly marked smoking areas outdoors. Indoor public spaces and most decks remain smoke free for the comfort of all guests.
What is playroom etiquette?
Consent and communication are always essential. If someone says no thank you, that is the end of the conversation. Keep personal items nearby and be mindful of space, noise, and hygiene. Staff are present to keep things clean and assist if needed, however all interaction should remain respectful and mutually agreed.
Does the cruiseline and crew know this is a lifestyle charter?
Yes. The entire ship is reserved for the lifestyle/swinger charter and the crew is fully aware of the group onboard. They are trained and prepared to support a comfortable, respectful, and judgment free environment. The ship’s staff works closely with event organizers to make sure the experience feels welcoming from the moment you arrive.
Nudist & Lifestyle Resorts
These questions cover what to expect at Nudist/Naturist & Lifestyle Resorts. For details specific to your destination, check the FAQ section on the specific resort page.
What's the difference between Clothing Optional (C/O) and Nudist or Naturist Resort
Clothing Optional resorts or beaches allow you to choose whether you want to be dressed or nude in designated areas. Many first timers prefer this approach because they can ease into the experience at their own comfort level. A Nudist or Naturist Resort typically means guests are expected to be fully out of their clothes in specific nude required zones to maintain the naturist environment.
Are these resorts couples only?
Some lifestyle resorts welcome singles, like Hedonism II and Temptation Resort. Group events or resort takeovers may include restrictions to help maintain a balanced and social atmosphere.
Naturist resorts are typically open to everyone including singles and couples since the focus is on body freedom and relaxation rather than a couples only atmosphere.
If you are traveling solo, a Castaways advisor can guide you to the best fit.
Are the resorts discreet?
Yes. Privacy is taken seriously. Guests are asked to avoid photos in clothing optional or adult spaces. Staff are trained to protect discretion throughout your stay.
Is alcohol included?
All the resorts we offer have inclusive packages that include food, alcoholic drinks, and entertainment.
Can we stay in a quiet area if we want to take breaks from the party?
Absolutely. Even the most energetic resorts offer calm beach spots and private hideaways for downtime and romance.
Do I have to, or can I be nude all the time?
It depends on the destination. Most Caribbean resorts require clothing in restaurants and certain public spaces. Nudity is usually limited to specific areas like the beach, pool, and hot tub. At places like Cap d’Agde in France, you can be nude almost everywhere including shops, restaurants, and even while strolling around town.
Nude cruise policies can also vary by ship and itinerary. Some allow nudity everywhere at all times, while others may require clothing in dining rooms, casinos, or when in certain ports. If you are curious about a specific location, just ask us. We are happy to help you know exactly what to expect so you can relax and enjoy your vacation.
What is the age requirment?
Lifestyle Resorts are strictly for adults. Most lifestyle resorts and cruises require guests to be at least 21 years old, although some may allow ages 18 and up depending on the property and local laws. Guests must always be legal adults to participate.
Naturist and nudist resorts operate very differently. Those destinations focus on non sexual body freedom and relaxation, so they may welcome all ages including families.
If you prefer an adults-only naturist experience, we can guide you to resorts and trips that align with that preference.
