Trip Report - August 2023 - M & K Couple - First Visit (Repeat Castaways clients)

Grand Miches was absolutely the nicest hotel we had ever stayed in. The room was enormous, the bed was perfect, the shower was huge and amazing. We had heard stories about the facility being under construction and not ready for guests. Although the Spa, which includes the gym, was still under construction (they have 2 or 3 steam rooms, 4 jacuzzis, etc.; The gym, though small, was complete) the rest of the resort was 100% complete. This didn't phase us at all since the Miches side of the resort had the largest hotel or resort-based weight room we had ever seen. M is a former bodybuilder and powerlifter... and so visiting the gym is an absolute "must" for every trip. Hence, on this issue, he is pretty much an expert; the gym at Miches was fantastic. The bar service and meals were also without comparison. Despite K having gluten sensitivities, the chefs always had several interesting dishes on the menu.

As you know, the entirety of Grand Miches is au natural. Although this did not officially include the beach, there is nobody there to complain. So, many people sun-bathed in the nude on the beach, too. Also... if you can imagine the 7-mile beach Hedo-II in Jamaica... then picture the same length of beach but with only two resorts; there is simply nobody at or on the beach.... for miles. Very pristine and beautiful.

Maybe a storm had come by; maybe not. Even so, there was nothing in the water (at all)! Kind of odd. Visibility was only about 6 inches, too. I think the waters must have been messed up by a recent storm. Anyway... water was clean... but no fish and nothing to see... in case anybody cares about this. No water sports, at all. Not sure if this is planned for the future... but there are only a few one-person kayaks. No big deal... but if we had stayed longer then we might have wanted or appreciated some variety for water activity.

The average age of people at Grand Miches was about 50; very few younger people, but everybody (without exception) was very nice and courteous. It was not completely clear if the group was oriented more toward swinging or just enjoying the nude atmosphere. Not being judgemental... but if we had to guess I would say that Grand Miches (unless booked by a group) is more oriented towards non-swinging and being voyeuristic... while Hedo is definitely oriented to "swinging and everything else." Either way, everybody had a fantastic time.  There was no drug use detected or smelled), nor were we aware of the ability to purchase Cannabis. Just saying.

I went for a run out in town. The town is incredible. It's a snapshot from 50 years ago, with nothing new. This makes it very quaint. Unlike Jamaica where you feel a little bit sad and uncomfortable about seeing how the citizens live (as compared to the resort)... the town of Miches seems to be what you might find outside Havana, Cuba. Just an old, quaint, clean town... all by itself... with absolutely nothing catering to tourists. It's there pretty much to serve the handful of hotels in Miches.

The average age of people at Miches was closer to 30 or so. Miches is set up to handle a pool party of about 2000 people. It's akin to the ESPN Spring Break videos. However.... Miches has an occupancy of 450 or so... but there were only about 100 guests. Grand Miches can handle about 150, but there were only about 40 guests. The low occupancy did seem to kill the mood at Miches a bit. However, at Grand Miches the professional entertainment staff was so engaging that you never realized that the hotel was only partly filled. Hence, we never felt like we were in the spotlight or "exposed" in a fashion because the occupancy was low.

The playroom and dance area were super cool, clean, and upscale. We must admit that it's kind of tricky to get to the playroom from the nightclub. In the end, we found out that we were not supposed to be using the back tunnels and hallways (which were pretty dark; haha). You enter the playroom from the back of the nightclub. That's the only way in... and the only way out. Kind of odd... but the nightclub is generally 100% empty after 11 pm or so. Everybody starts at the club.. and then everybody goes to the huge pool adjacent to the nightclub. This pool is on the 2nd floor and open to the sky. Totally cool. Also, at the pool,... anything goes; No restrictions. Even so... if you want to visit the playroom you have to exit the pool, dry off or cover with a towel, walk through a couple of hallways, and then completely through the nightclub... and then finally enter the playroom. We mention this because it's a small thing that management might be able to fix. Not sure how, though.

Our daily routine always involved the cappuccino shop with its pastries. Everything is made fresh. From what we can tell... it's all made on-site, too.
Some of the guests at Grand Miches made it a point to avoid visiting Miches, and had (to be blunt) an elitest attitude about "being nude" and "our side of the resort costing so much more". This made the visit more interesting since we like people watching... and everybody is a little bit different. From our perspective, we absolutely enjoyed the combination of Miches and Grand Miches. From our perspective, Kate could go to Miches and "show off" to people who (also to be blunt, enjoyed looking) while also enjoying the cool restaurants and pool on the Miches side.. and then return to Grand Miches at our leisure and enjoy the nude and carefree atmosphere of Grand Miches luxury.

So... nothing is everything perfect. The entire town of Miches and the surrounding resorts lost 100% of all water for about 3 hours on one evening. It was a planned outage and we were warned. Even so, it was a little bit stressful. They are replacing the huge water main that goes under the street in Miches town. I only know this because I went for a run and saw it.

Last, but not least: Very few people speak English. We were also one of the few Americans at the resort. Not sure if this is an issue, but it made the trip more exciting for us since although we were still in a "resort"... it was very clear that we were NOT in the United States or Jamaica.  Also... in case people are wondering: Prostitution is legal in DR... but we saw zero evidence of this at all. Nobody approached us nor did we see any type of evidence of anything that was intimidating. Just saying that this is essentially a non-issue.   So... that's some high-level points. We will definitely be returning to Grand Miches and are looking forward to it. If this is what we experienced at 25% occupancy, the experience at 100% should be over-to-top!

Trip Report -  April 2023 - M & A Couple - First Visit (Repeat Castaways clients)

It was a great trip. Transfer time was only an hour for us but we had a great driver Lopez who we requested on return. The biggest issue was flies all over the (outside) dining areas. Like a bunch - both dead and alive. Not just at Grand Miches (but also at Temptations Miches dinners too. Found two dead ones in our wine glasses and butter dishes as well as all over the buffets).

The pool is awesome and the staff was very nice. Harder to communicate with them as they don’t really know much English yet. The hot tub is huge but not a good thing as there's a lot of empty space in the middle so you don’t get to mingle as easily as at Desire. Our building had an elevator which was a great addition.

Another issue is they don’t provide info on when activities are taking place including nightlife. I assume things will improve as they learn. Overall we were very pleased and would go back. We still prefer Mexico for now. Trip Report - March 2023 - Castaways Couple - A & B - First Visit (Repeat Castaways clients)

Thank you for the welcome back. It was the Temptation GRAND Dominican Republic. We enjoyed the facilities a lot, but were disappointed that the Grand Miches side wasn’t clothing optional other than the playroom and the jacuzzi. We pretty much knew that going there, but it was still a bummer.

Trip Report - March 2023 - Castaways Couple - anonymous - First Visit 

Starting at Punta Cana airport:
Airport transfers: We meet the transfer company, they checked us in, reviewed the pick-up time for the return trip and took us curbside, took 8-10 minutes and a nice newer full-size SUV picked us up, we had a bi-lingual driver ( unfortunately English was not one of them ) we drove straight to the resort ( 90 minutes)

Resort Arrival: Check-in was quick and professional, and another guy started explaining the restaurants, the ability to go next door and so on ( at this point we wanted lunch ) and then he got into the welcome gift ( undercover timeshare salesman ) we explained getting something to eat was our current focus. At the restaurant, we quickly learned they don’t know English and unfortunately, we don’t know Spanish, ordering was a rough start. After eating, we checked into a room, overlooking the front entrance, my wife ask to be moved and minutes later we had an excellent view looking toward the entertainment area.
The room: we booked the least expensive most basic category; this was the nicest, best bathroom for entry-level room we ever had. Plenty of hang-up space, shower water pressure is excellent. Comfortable bed, multiple lighting options ( Many people online bitching about contractor quality,) it wasn’t perfect, but not worth complaining.
Pools and beach; the main pool was chilly to cold water, the beach is now topless also; the chairs on the beach are tucked in a private area with little to no ocean view, this is required due the late morning/afternoon breeze. They had 3-day beds with shade on the beach with a water view but the wind prevented anyone from using them when the breeze picks up,
the stray dogs are very friendly and well-behaved.
Entertainment; (playmakers) They were excellent, very personable, and interactive with all guests, their challenge was only 97 guest the first couple of days, so it was hard getting involvement in activities,
Something unexpected; the front deck set me up on the What’s App, she texted me every morning asking what they can do to help, assist with dinner recommendations and reservations, and any questions I had. Felt like a butler without paying for the higher room categories;
1st night hibachi ; plenty to eat and great meal, entertaining chief
2nd night ; She ; Erotic dinner show, with five-course meal
3rd night ; back at Grand side, again pleased with the service and meal
4th night; Flame on other side (Steakhouse) This threw us for a loop, the hostess sat us at the only table decorated with special tablecloth and centerpieces, the waiter came out introduced himself and took our picture with his personal cell phone, then ask if we wanted the lighting on the back wall on or off for our dining experience, hostess checked on numerous times along with assistant waiter and drink person, the meal was good, but service was extraordinary. Better than anyone else in the restaurant was experiencing.
5th night back at hibachi, again plenty to eat and a good meal.
6th night: Other side (Miches) for Italian, decent, but least favorite meal of the week.
What we didn’t expect, how nice all the guests were, we probably vacationed at 25 all-inclusive resorts and did the same number of cruise ships, but never interacted with this many other guests. The first 3 or 4 days my wife was relaxing and enjoying herself, unfortunately, one night at the bar a very confident/wealthy lady from Chicago was explaining to my wife she was in the first step of becoming a swinger and if not she shouldn’t be here. This just deflated her interest in staying. Plus the upstairs activities were not always in her comfort zone, we would have liked to enjoy the heated upstairs pool more ( which may I add had the best bartender) but as old school as we are didn’t need to see the sexual activity of guests. That’s fine for the playroom which is not part of interest.
Evening shows and theme nights; we never experienced shows of this nature and enjoyed the energy and R-rated dance of the entertainment team. Now after a week; it kinda ran together as a lot of the same. As for the guest, this was all over the map, 1/2 the woman made an effort to dress in theme, a small portion of the men. And many not doing anything. As we didn’t know what to expect, my wife and I were the most overdressed ( not showing any skin)of the group.
As we made an effort to keep our distance from the Chicago lady, the others were very friendly, personable and enjoyable to talk with.
On our last full day, the front desk lady called and confirmed pick-up and time with transportation, I told her I would bring the information to the lobby, and she said I work for you, I’ll find you poolside, you stay and enjoy.
Check-out went smoothly, transfer was on time, this guy did again not speak English and had us at the airport in 1hr & 15 minutes.
Airport check-in was busy and we were glad to be picked up 4 hrs before the flight, this gave us a chance for a bite to eat and a few minutes before boarding the plane.
Overall I would recommend the Grand, we were not as impressed with the other side (Temptation Miches) but enjoyed being able to see their shows and enjoy their restaurants.
The staff tried 100% to please the guest, you didn’t always get what you ordered, but they keep trying, unfortunately, you may have finished your meal before they got it right,
We’re definitely not ready for RM, as the guest were telling us how tame this is in comparison, and the wife had mixed feelings about returning here, as she is fine with vanilla resorts. But we did enjoy the friendliness of the majority.
Plus 90-minute drive after flying is about our limit, wish it was a bit closer to the airport. We did see a couple of guests arrive by helicopter, but for $1800, the SUV was just fine.
The littlest coffee/ danish shop was a nice bonus.
The gift shop was overpriced if they sold everything for 50% off.

Mostly shaded seats at the upstairs pool, but full sun in the pool and bar area. Felt bad for Sonia the bartender.
The beach is undeveloped to the right of the resort, beautiful view until more resorts are built.
Staff and newness of the resort are selling feature
Thoughts on Hidden Beach Resort:  After reading my review for my wife to enjoy topless, occasional all-natural, but not seeing some of the sights we just witnessed. But I’m hearing the price might be past my limited budget at Hidden Beach.
