Resort Overview

Sunscape Splash has been renovated with a $7 million restoration including two tall hotel towers, public rooms, restaurants, rooms as well as the two story beach front buildings for suites.

Total room count is 420, one of the largest in Jamaica and serves singles, couples and some families. The beach front resort boasts an all inclusive plan and a children's program so parents can enjoy their own vacation.

Sunscape Splash Resort itself is a family resort, but there is an adults only nude beach just a short walk out to the right side of the property.

Getting There

Sunscape Splash is a few minutes, 7 miles, from the Montego Bay Airport and is just down the street from the cruise ship terminal, across the bay from town.

Reserve your spot at Club MoBay, an upscale traveler's lounge in the new section of the Montego Bay Airport.

The Club provides expedited arrival, customs/immigration and departure services in addition to the Club admission, all inclusive, with drinks, bar service and snacks, WiFi, satellite TV provided.

U.S. Citizens: Passports are required for international air travel to all destinations outside the USA.

A short ride through town takes about 15 minutes to reach the resort. Of course, if you decide to sail in via ship, the resort is next door to the cruise terminal.

Services

Sunscape Splash is a full service property for singles, couples and families. During summer, more children are evident.

The all inclusive concept includes all meals, all bar drinks, air conditioned rooms in both the two hotel towers and the low rise beach front buildings, hotel taxes, tips, service charges, entertainment, water sports and airport transfers in one up front price.

Beaches include three to choose from including one for families and an adults only nude beach with a beach bar located nearby. Best feature if you like tennis are the 4 lighted courts open all the time.

Other sports besides tennis include a game room, volleyball, basketball, a fitness center, optional golf, miniature golf on site and supervised children's programs from 9 AM-9 PM, with optional nanny service available at other times of the day.

There are 6 bars and lounges including lobby bars, a swim up bar and the Yellow Bird Disco. There is also a casino with over 60 slots and machines plus electronic gaming. Floor shows and local acts are provided throughout the week for evening entertainment.

Rooms include air conditioning, in room safes, satellite TV, direct dial telephones, voice mail, hair dryers and full private baths. An extra plus is that some of the Deluxe suites include Jacuzzis. Electricity is 110 just like the USA.

Other services available on site include a beauty salon, spa center, car rental, baby sitting, concierge, daily activities program and shuttle bus to town.

Ambiance

Sunscape Splash Resort is a busy place with lots going on all the time.

Location, location, location is its greatest asset as the property is very close to downtown Montego Bay with lots of night life, restaurants and sight seeing close by. There is an activities staff on board plus a children's program to keep all ages busy from 9 AM-9 PM.

Night life includes floor shows and the disco to choose from plus dining until 10 PM. The high rise buildings contain most of the guest rooms and all public rooms, restaurants, disco and reception areas are located in between the high rise buildings.

The best rooms, in our opinion, for the nude beach are the series of low rise guest quarters (Beach Inn-120 rooms) adjacent to and east of the high rise towers (Sunrise and Sunset Towers-300 rooms). The Beach Inn is near the nude beach and short walk to the main resort area and restaurants.

To avoid most of the kids, stay at the Beach Inn near the nude beach.

TIPS

If you like to stay near the nude beach, get your room at the Beach Inn, which are a bit more than the tower rooms, but some of the Deluxe suites there include Jacuzzis.

Visit Montego Bay for shopping and nightlife. If you like to bar hop, try Margaritaville on Doctor's Beach open to the public.

If you want a budget vacation with the minimum of children around, avoid mid June to mid August.

The nude beach is for adults only, so plan to go and hang out there most of the time unless you have a family.

If you go into town, try to stop at the local crafts market for some terrific hand-made carvings and locally produced souvenirs. Don't be surprised if the local vendors really try to sell you...just do some comparison shopping and look around the market at other vendors before you commit.

Group Trips

We don't have scheduled group trips to Sunscape Splash... but no worries... it's still a great place for two, three or even dozens of couples to get together for a group trip.  If you have other couples that might want to join you, please contact us and see what kind of group trip deals we might be able to package especially for you.

Sightseeing

There are lots to see and do using Montego Bay as a base. You can visit the Black River, raft the Martha Brae, snorkel and dive in the local area, golf on several local courses, shop downtown and at the Half Moon resort shopping arcade, visit the Blue Mountains, see Dunn's River Falls and lots more.

All can be arranged right at the tour desk at the resort. There are at least 15-20 optional day trips you can book at the tour desk.

Dining

Three restaurants and beach side cafes are available with a disco, game room, spa and tennis courts available. Italian is served at Bottticelli, Oriental fare at Silk Road and Banana Walk serves buffet meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Reservations are required for the Italian and Oriental restaurants, but no jackets are required. Sunscape Splash Grill and the Pool Grill also serve daytime snacks around the pool and beach areas for burgers, fries and light meals and drinks.

Rates

For a modestly priced all inclusive vacation with a nude beach, this resort is a good fit for those on a budget. All inclusive rates start at about $150/person/night in low season and are higher during the winter season and holidays. Children's rate is extra. High season rates tend to run from December 15-April 15.

Please contact CASTAWAYS TRAVEL for "packages" including airfare, departure taxes and resort accommodations for both adult and children's rates in one price.

Impressions

 Uppers-Downers

▲ If you're on a budget and want a big bang for your buck, this is a resort for you.

▲▼ If you want a completely adults only atmosphere, you won't find it here since this family resort attracts kids, especially during the summer months. With that said, if you plan to spend most of your time at the nude beach, in the lounges, restaurants, in town and at disco, the kid factor can be minimized.

▲▼ The trade off between a modestly priced vacation with a nude beach has to be weighed against the presence of children....it's your choice. If you choose to vacation with your children and still want access to an adults only beach, this is the place for you, as there is a supervised children's program from 9 AM-9 PM. In the evening, a nanny service can be arranged through the hotel to watch your children late into the evening.

▲ Sunscape Splash is just far enough from town to enjoy the feel of a tropical location while being close enough for shopping and night life.

▲ If you stay at the Beach Inn and use the adults only nude beach, you'll feel like you're in your own adults only resort anyway, as no children are allowed on the nude beach.

▲ Great location only minutes from town is a big asset if you like to get off the property.

▲ Bus ride from the airport is only 15 minutes or so.

Age Ranges

All ages are seen here with few seniors as this resort attracts singles, families and couples.

The resort has been a great value annually for spring breakers in March and April.

Best Time To Go

You might want to avoid summer season primarily because of children on summer vacation June to August. Late summer (August to mid October) may bring more unstable weather when hurricane season occurs. However, no major storms have visited Montego Bay for the past 10-12 years or so.

Wish List

● Make the resort an adults only property.

● THE BOTTOM LINE A good bang for the buck with a nice, adults only beach in an otherwise family oriented resort.

V & S Couple: Oasis at Sunscape Splash Resort

This was our 5th all-inclusive resort vacation in Jamaica. Our favorite resort (N Resort) closed so I had to search for a new resort. After my search and talking with friends with Castaways Travel, we decided on the Oasis (low rise, 2 story accommodations) instead of the adjoining property (Sunscape Splash, part of AMResorts). See: Sunscape Splash Resort

Castaways Note: The property has two sections: Twin towers for families(the main Sunscape resort) and the Oasis nearest the adults only clothing-optional beach) Both are located on the same gated property.

The Oasis was great choice. May not be a 5 Star resort, but for what we paid we will give Oasis 5 stars. Sunscape Resort (next door) only gets a lower rating. We paid the upgrade for an oceanfront room and it was sure worth the money.

Water's edge was a mere 60 or so feet from our patio, great for morning coffee and afternoon and evening cocktails. With the Oasis and Sunscape hotels adjoining each other we spent time at both.

I'll rate on a scale of 1 to 10 (excellent) on both. Oasis hotel room was a strong 9, was a bit cramped but well furnished. Beer, water and soda was restocked every day. Maid service was very good. Bathroom was very small with the tub/shower being very slippery, they need rubber bath mats.

Oasis restaurant the Terrace was a great experience. We give it a 10 on service and a 9 on food. I wish we would have eaten every meal there.

We went to the Au Natural beach every morning. Our hotel accommodation at the Oasis was 3 rooms from the pool which gave us about a 1/5 mile walk to the nude beach. Once there, it was almost like being in Paradise.

Sorry to say that we don't have too much good to say about the Sunscape part of the resort. We went to 2 breakfast buffets and one lunch buffet. They only have bacon every other day. Had a hard time getting butter for our toast and our second time for breakfast the toaster was not working.

We give the buffets a weak 5 (points out of 10). The Asian restaurant was just OK with slow service, had to wait 15 minutes to get a Coke. We give them 6 points. The Italian restaurant was more disappointing with the food and again very slow service. We give them 5 points. Most of the staff was OK for the most part, only a few bartenders had any personality.

Spend the extra money and upgrade to the Oasis ... well worth the money. We will go back. From, V & S - A Florida Resort Manager
