 Canary Islands - Spain |
| Spice is a
well deserved new addition to the adult vacation segment and compares favorably
to Desire Resort in Cancun although the Spice is equally attractive to
open-minded nudists. |

Spice Resort, located on Lanzarote, one of the Spanish
Canary Islands, launched operations June 2010 as the first all inclusive,
adults only, clothing optional European-based property in years. A forerunner
with a similar all inclusive concept in Europe was Club Med which ditched its
former business strategy in the early 80s in favor of the family holiday
market.
Spice is a well deserved new addition to the adult vacation
segment and compares favorably to Desire Resort in Cancun
although
the Spice is equally attractive to open-minded nudists. Spice has 67 rooms and
suites while Desire numbers 114. The beach is about 3 blocks away from the
heart of the # 1 resort area of Lanzarote
.its just a short walk to
the beachside glamor of Puerto Del Carmen
..actually fairly similar to
Playa del Carmen near Cancun.
We cannot say enough about the staff
that hails from all over Europe as well as the Canary Islands. Each one of them
is
spectacular,
extremely competent and experienced in their jobs. A big plus for holiday
seekers worldwide is the staff is multi-lingual, with arguably 6 or 7 languages
spoken among them.
Dean and Tracy are the on site managers, originally
from the UK. Without a doubt, Dean and Tracy plus their multi-lingual,
multi-talented staff are the heart and soul of the resort. Owners include Dean
& Tracy from the UK, an American financial partner plus one other partner
from the UK, all of whom have visited Desire Resort many times, enabling them
to appreciate what it takes to operate an adults only, clothing optional
vacation property.
A big plus for the location: The Canary Islands, an
arid Spanish chain of volcanic outcroppings in the eastern Atlantic, are a
year-round destination with little temperature variation between seasons and
almost no rain, averaging just 9 mm/month. Plus, its only a few hours
from most European air gateways, less than 4 hours from the UK and a little
over 2 hours from the Spanish mainland. Located in Puerto Del Carmen on
Lanzarote, Spice is in the heart of the most popular resort area on the 40 mile
long island. For a feel of Lanzarote, think Baja California or Aruba, with
cactus arguably the most abundant crop along with grapes, would you
believe?

Lanzarote, Canary Islands-Spain is approximately 100
kilometers due west of the African continent with Morocco the closest
country.
Most holiday visitors to the Canary Islands are from the UK,
Europe and of course from the Spanish mainland. While scheduled airlines serve
the islands, most visitors use economical non-stop charter flights, abundantly
available from most European continental capitals and the UK, almost on a daily
basis.
Most scheduled air carriers flights require a change of
planes in London, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris or Amsterdam plus other European
gateways. We used a combination of scheduled airline plus a charter to reach
Lanzarote.
Depending upon your schedule, we recommend you plan your
holiday at least for about 10 days to include Spice for a week or so coupled
with a 3-night visit to one of the European capitals before your visit the
Canary Islands. This gives you a chance to adjust to any time change plus you
will be perfectly suited to catch a charter flight to Lanzarote without having
to worry about airline connections, since most charters depart in the morning
hours.

Spice is
all-inclusive so you will not want for anything. The all inclusive plan
includes: * All meals and snacks * Top shelf alcohol, beer and wine
* Your room or suite * Entertainment * Activities during the day and
frequent themes in the evening * WiFi just about everywhere on the
resort. * Excellent cuisine prepared by top shelf chefs from the
Continent. * Disco/night club with the latest in tunes plus a couple of
play rooms for adults only * adjacent to the night club
Reliable
WiFi for E Mail, website access and texting is convenient from all locations on
the property.
Electrical supply is classic 220 v just like on the mainland. Take along a
converter and adapters for your fun stuff in case you need it plus various
types of batteries.
NOTE: Although airport transfers are not included,
the airport is only about 10-15 minutes from Puerto Del Carmen where Spice is
located. Cost for transfers by taxi is about 10 Euro or USD $15/ride, one way.
Car rentals are available right at the airport from the usual chains
such as Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Sixt and others. We rented a car for the day and
visited most of the islands attractions in one day from the north end to
the south end.
From the front desk at Spice, you can also arrange for
a car rental.. The car rental company will pick you up at the resort
no
worries there. We arranged the rental at the front desk of the
resort.

Basils
bar and night club serve the best drinks, classic Spanish beer plus local as
well as regional Spanish wines. The bar also supplies late night/early morning
burgers and snacks to about 7 AM so you wont go hungry while youre
dancing or celebrating the night (or morning away).
Dining is both a la
carte as well as buffet. Classic European dishes are served including the
expected British breakfast plus Spanish specialties are featured, too.
Bear in
mind, Lanzarote is a volcanic island: Rain is rare so most everything is
imported except certain types of local wines
thank goodness for that.
Light and delicate whites are grown, literally from the ground up, plus a few
red vintages are cultivated, although theyre not as full- bodied as those
available on the mainland.
The resort features a couple of top chefs
including one for breakfast and dinner plus a head chec for evening meals and
specialties. And, you can also order customized menus if you request them ahead
of time. Premium selections may cost extra.

Adults only!
You will
see adults from the 20s to 60s and 70s with most in the middle
.early/mid
30s to late 40s and above. While we were they, we saw these age ranges from
nudists to party animals
..Dutch, American, German, English, Belgium,
Italian, French and more. Would you believe most of our conversations were with
the French guests?
Dont worry: It seems after traveling to 105
countries, weve found you can just about converse with anyone speaking
English. Although we know and can converse a bit in Spanish (being from Texas,
what do you expect?), most everyone else weve met worldwide, including a
tribesman in the middle of a million acres in a Kenya wildlife preserve, speak
a little English, often better than us.
Hey, half the fun of traveling
meeting your fellow travelers. We found that to be true again at Spice Resort
on Lanzarote.

What a fun place. Your entertainment no doubt will be
generated from the great guest mix youll meet at the bar, around the pool
or in the night club. Since Spice attracts an international mix of clients. The
place is fairly compact and most activity centers
around the pool, hot tub, restaurant and club, although more relaxation spaces
are planned for other locations on the property.
Tips Take a Visa.
Master Card or AmEx Card as all are accepted.
Take
your passport or drivers license most places since most stores, shops and
boutiques will ask to see it as well as your passport number.
Dont worry about a rain coat or umbrella
.its very unlikely
you will ever need one.
No need for a swim suit unless you want to
visit a textile beach. Spice Resort is not located on a beach but its
about 2 or 3 blocks to the main beach in town at Puerto Del Carmen. Nude
beaches are also located in several places on the island and the staff can tell
you the locations. Probably the closes is north about 30 minutes at Charco del
Polo which we visited.

Geez, where else can you drive across the island and be on
the moon in 30 minutes? Except for maybe Hilo, Hawaii at the volcano park or
north of Kona along the highway out of town to Parker Ranch?
Tamanfaya
National Park on the west side of Lanzarote contains at least 187 volcanoes
within its boundaries. Dont worry
.theyre dormant.
You
can also hop on one of the frequent ferries at the south end of the island for
a quick 20 minute ride for a day tour of Fuerteventura, another popular island
in the Canary chain.
Here's a list of just some of the things you can
choose from shown below. These can be arranged at the front desk of the resort
and you can even rent a car for the day to see most of the island: * Deep
Sea Fishing * Sport Fishing * Rancho Texas Park (It's a zoo, too)
*
Submarine Safaris * Nude Cruise dependent on numbers *
Aquapark * Quad Bike Safari * Lanzarote Aquarium * Power Boat
Hire * Lanzarote South Tour * Lanzarote North Tour * Camel
Safari * Teguise Market (We did this and enjoyed it for some great art,
crafts and cuisine) * Timanfaya National Park
* Naturist
Beaches
One of the most interesting side trips includes a ride down the
middle of the island to visit vineyards and wineries along the way. You will
see the majority of the grape growing occurring on the ground in unusual black
sand pits about 5-10 feet in diameter where vines are planted so the cupped
soil collects what little moisture there is at night to provide water for the
plants. We've seen lots of vineyards but nothing like th

No need for a swim suit. Most folks enjoy the pool

Although Spice plans to add air conditioning to the
guest rooms, we found no need for it since there is usually a constant trade
wind blowing plus the humidity is extremely low. |

If you're a beach bum, you won't find it out your
door. The main beach is a few blocks east of the resort which is located on the
outskirts of the Puerto del Carment tourist town. |
